The latest generation of the Jeep Cherokee has so far only been sold in the US, yet its appearance was enough to spark a decent discussion. Now the American SUV is also going to the European market , where it cannot do without a diesel engine for a change.
The American manufacturer will install two versions of the two-liter Multijet II diesel in the Cherokee. The weaker one has a power of 140 hp and a maximum torque of 330 Nm, the stronger one has 170 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The weaker diesel will be offered with a six-speed manual or an additional nine-speed automatic , the stronger diesel has an automatic as standard.
Two petrol units will be offered on the old continent – a six-cylinder 3.2 Pentastar with a capacity of 272 hp and a torque of 315 Nm and a four-cylinder 2.4 Tigershark MultiAir with a capacity of 177 hp, but it will be offered exclusively in Russia and the Middle East.
Similar to the US, Europe will get three types of all-wheel drive. Active Drive I fully automatically engages the rear wheels via a wet inter-axle clutch, which cooperates with the sensors of the stabilization system, which transmit information to the control unit. Active Drive II is equipped with a reduction gearbox with a ratio of 2.92:1. Active Drive Lock is only available for the Trailhawk trim, and in addition to all the features of the Active Drive II, it also offers a lockable rear differential. All three four-wheel drive systems are equipped with Selec-Terrain traction control with four modes (Auto, Snow, Sport and Sand/Mud), respectively five in the Trailhawk version (plus a Rock mode).
The equipment includes, for example, a seven-inch TFT display , the UConnect multimedia system with an 8.4-inch screen or 506-watt Alpine audio. The technical features include adaptive cruise control, a frontal collision warning system, a lane departure warning system, and a blind spot monitor. Up to 100 elements of the Mopar customization program will also be available. The premiere of the European version of the Jeep Cherokee will take place in March at the Geneva Motor Show .
