Jeep is preparing a sports version of the Cherokee SUV

The new generation of Jeep Cherokee raised a wave of emotions among the lay and expert public. The reason was nothing more than a very controversial design . The American SUV received further publicity in connection with the multiple postponement of production and the subsequent start of sales. Now, however, it seems that Jeep has managed to solve all the problems, and in addition, a sports version of the SRT is also planned!

This was discussed during the presentation of the new Cherokee in California , where Steve Bartoli , head of product planning for the brand, said that the SRT version would be a lot of fun . At the same time, he immediately swept off the table the speculation that the eight-cylinder 6.4 HEMI , which is used in the larger Grand Cherokee SRT8 , could get under the hood. Bartoli sees the use of a turbocharged four- or six-cylinder engine as more realistic, mainly due to lower emissions and consumption.

Cherokee designer Greg Howell thinks SRT will only make a sportier version of the Cherokee if "the business makes sense": "They (the SRT division) will try and see if the business makes sense. If so, and we can make money from it, we'll go for it!”
