Skoda produced the four millionth car of the Octavia model series . The heart of the brand has been a benchmark in the lower middle class for almost 17 years. The anniversary car, the Octavia of the third generation in Race Blue, rolled off the line at the main production plant in Mladá Boleslav yesterday. Since 1996, the Skoda Octavia has been a benchmark in the lower middle class and is by far the brand's best-selling model .
"Four million Octavias produced – an impressive number represents the great success of this model and the entire brand," says Skoda Chairman of the Board Prof. Dr. hc Winfried Vahland . "As the heart of the brand, Octavia decisively influenced the excellent development of the Skoda brand and made the car company what it is today: an internationally successful manufacturer , represented in more than 100 markets worldwide . With the third generation, we continue this success. The new Octavia, with its typical genes, hits the mark again. It is the biggest, most practical, safest, most comfortable, lightest and most ecological Octavia ever," adds Vahland .
The Octavia has always been synonymous with the Skoda brand: timelessly elegant design, above-average space, maximum functionality, a range of Simply Clever details, modern technology, quality and precision, and last but not least, an unbeatable price-to-utility ratio. The third generation, launched at the beginning of 2013, amplifies all these features even more. The new Octavia offers more than ever before the qualities of a mid-range car at the price of a compact car.
At the start of production in 1996, the Octavia was the first completely newly developed Skoda model after the fall of the Iron Curtain and the start of cooperation between the Skoda brand and the Volkswagen concern. From 1996 to the end of July 2013, nearly four million Octavias were delivered to customers worldwide, representing roughly 38 percent of the brand's total sales during that period. The Octavia is an undisputed bestseller in the almost 118-year history of the car company.
The new Octavia is the most important model of the biggest product offensive in the history of the Skoda brand. With a number of completely new models, the car company is strengthening its growth course. The goal of the growth strategy is to increase the brand's worldwide sales to at least 1.5 million cars per year by 2018.
In the first half of 2013, the Czech automaker presented its new bestseller in four variants, when the Octavia, Octavia Combi, Octavia Combi 4×4 and the sporty Octavia RS , which with a maximum speed of 248 km/h is the fastest series-produced Octavia of all time, came in succession. As one of the pillars of Skoda's growth strategy, the Octavia is successful on an international scale . In addition to production at Skoda's main plant in Mladá Boleslav, the compact car also rolls off production lines in Russia (Nizhny Novgorod), India (Aurangabad), Ukraine (Solonovo) and Kazakhstan (Ust-Kamenogorsk). From 2014, it is also planned to start production in China , the largest market of the Skoda brand. "More than ever before, the Octavia is a car for Europe and for the whole world," says Winfried Vahland.
