The Infiniti Q30 is one of the most anticipated novelties of this year's Frankfurt Motor Show , perhaps only because the automaker itself defines it as the founder of a new segment of premium active compacts . However, the fact that the platform and engines are the same as the Mercedes A-class will say much more in the end.
It's a raised hatchback, but it's not a crossover. That's a rough description of the idea behind the Q30. At first glance, you probably won't guess that the MRA platform , actually a compact three-pointed star, is hidden under the coat. Infiniti focused on its classic design full of curls, curves and irregular lines. For example, the "cut out" rear pillar or some kind of imaginary extension of the rear window is interesting. The Japanese will offer a total of three equipment lines – the press release is still silent about the basic SE , the middle Premium with a height of 1495 mm, LED fog lights, 18-inch wheels and heated mirrors in the body color is currently complemented by a 20 mm lower Sport version with more prominently shaped bumpers, sill extensions, 19-inch wheels, a black grille and a double exhaust tip.
The interior offers a few common buttons with Mercedes, but otherwise it is unique, perhaps too much so in some elements. The center console is slightly angled towards the driver, while the display of the InTouch multimedia system remains almost at right angles. The analogue and at first glance easy-to-read alarm clocks deserve praise, among which the on-board computer display shines. The steering wheel and gear lever head can also be rated as good looking. For the first time ever, the Infiniti range will feature sports seats with integrated headrests and eight-way electric adjustment. The 4425 mm long hatchback with a wheelbase of 2700 mm can accommodate five passengers as well as 368 liters of cargo, and the rear passengers have 538 mm of knee room.
As already mentioned in the introduction, technically the Q30 is a very close relative of the Mercedes A-class , which is probably most evident in the engine range. The basis will be a 16-cylinder gasoline engine with an output of 122 hp at 5000 rpm with a torque of 200 Nm between 1250 – 4000 rpm, respectively with an output of 156 hp at 5300 rpm with a torque of 250 Nm between 1250 – 4000 rpm. / min. Above it stands a two-liter engine with an output of 211 hp at 5,500 rpm with a torque of 350 Nm between 1,200 and 4,000 rpm. The diesel range so far consists of a fifteen -cylinder engine with a power of 109 hp at 4000 rpm with a torque of 260 Nm between 1750 – 2500 rpm and a 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine with a power of 170 hp between 3400 – 4000 rpm with a torque of 350 Nm between 1400 – 3400 rpm Transmissions will be available with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The range of safety assistants will include a parking assistant with detection of moving objects and a panoramic camera system, blind spot monitoring, a pre-collision system, emergency braking, automatic high beams or adaptive cruise control. Sales will start at the end of this year, the first deliveries can be expected in January next year.
