Hyundai introduced the new generation Sonata sedan

Many of you still remember the name Sonata . The middle-class sedan once tried to compete with cars like the Passat, Mondeo or Vectra on the Czech market. That time is long gone, the Sonata in Europe was replaced by the i40 model , so we will only meet this classic sedan in the USA or Asia.

And it is for these two markets that the completely new generation , which was introduced in South Korea yesterday and will head to the USA next month at the New York Auto Show, is intended. The first change you'll notice is the switch to the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language , which is perhaps a little more settled, but optically the new Sonata looks sleeker and design-wise, thanks to the hexagonal grille and large bi-xenon lights with LED daytime running lights, similar the new Genesis.

What you probably won't notice at first glance is the intergenerational shift in dimensions . The Sonata has grown in length by 35 mm, in width by 30 mm and in height by 5 mm. Overall, the mid-class sedan measures 4855 mm in length , 1865 mm in width, 1475 mm in height, and the wheelbase is 2805 mm long. The numbers are complemented by 462 liters of luggage space and 41% more torsional rigidity of the body .

The interior boasts above all higher quality materials and a better quality of workmanship. The ergonomics were also improved, and an 8-inch screen of the multimedia system moved into the center of the center panel. Thanks to it, it will be possible to pair the car with a USB disk, iPod, Bluetooth or even a smartphone. The equipment also includes six airbags , heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats , rear window curtains or all electronic assistants such as ABS, EBD, TCS, ESP or blind spot monitoring.
