How to remove scratches

Scratched paint doesn't have to be anything special on a car. There are many situations where this can specifically happen. If we look at several of them, then the cause can be a vandal, as well as our carelessness, parking close to other cars, but also many other situations.

It is also clear that the intensity of given scratches can be very different indeed. If the scratches are deep, you should definitely start looking for a professional solution, sometimes even a new varnish. But if we are dealing with scratches that we can describe as minor, it can be said that repairing the scratched paintwork is not difficult.

Get the sanding paste

First, you need to get the most important things. And that is sanding paste. Of course, it's not just any kind of paste. This is a solution that is intended directly for the scratch. Where to get it? Best in a classic store, as well as in an e-shop, where they also sell auto parts. This is the only way you can be sure that you will get exactly what you specifically need. Today there are a variety of manufacturers, as well as a variety of qualities. We definitely recommend that you don't skimp, as polishing sanding paste can be a great way to easily create a completely perfect surface from damaged paint that looks like new at first glance. The reason is that the given paste can not only eliminate surface scratches quite easily, but can also polish the given area of the car, i.e. the paint very successfully. And this subsequently leads to a perfect appearance.

Prepare your car

First of all, you need to properly prepare your car, so that the removal of scratches with sanding paste is associated with a truly perfect result. The first step should be to wash your car. And either the whole thing, or you can wash only the part where the incriminating scratch is located. It is important not only to remove any dirt with a good quality car shampoo, but it is also necessary that the area is rinsed well with clean water. Furthermore, it is also necessary that the area in question must also be perfectly dry, without any drops of water.

The specific place where the scratched paint will be repaired is partially prepared. Now you have to think about the fact that the varnish should not be warmed up in any way. So the car should not stand in the sun and the paint should not heat up. And not even during the application itself. It is therefore good to be in the shade with your car and to carry out the application itself when the temperatures are adequate. Between 10 and 20 degrees. In the summer, it can be cooler mornings, in the winter, for example, the space in your garage will serve you well.

Apply sanding paste

At this point, it may happen that you take the sanding paste. You apply this to a clean cloth. Of course, it can be any material, but we recommend that it be as soft as possible. An ideal choice can be the microfiber recommended so much today. However, it is not necessary, as flannel, for example, or very high-quality and of course 100% cotton can also serve you quite well. Just apply a small amount of the paste to the given cloth. Remember that you can add it at any time if necessary.

Spread the paste

Once we have the paste applied to the given cloth, we can get down to the most important work. Fortunately, repairing scratched paint with sanding paste is not difficult. The only thing that is needed in this case is the necessity of spreading the paste. Not only directly on the scratched part, but logically also in its vicinity. What is definitely important is trying not to push too hard. When it comes to polishing scratches, it is always true that the perfect way to success is first and foremost gentleness. Also, don't forget that it is ideal to make circular movements, thanks to which you will be sure that you polish the paste really perfectly and, above all, evenly, over the entire area you need. If it seems to you that there is not enough paste for the given place, you can of course simply add it. As we wrote above, it is always better to add the paste several times than to have the problem of having used more than absolutely necessary.

Let dry

During spreading, the paste will gradually dry out. This is not a bad thing, as it is a natural phenomenon and a self-evident procedure that is directly related to your work. As soon as you know that the paste is dry enough, you need to take a new, again clean and dry cloth. Use it to polish the given paste in a specific place. Here, too, we recommend not only circular movements, but we also recommend making larger circles to really polish the paste completely smooth. As soon as you feel that the cloth glides perfectly easily over the body, you are done. Now you can visually check whether you have managed to eliminate the given scratch. If so, you've won. If not, you can repeat the procedure once or twice. It always depends on how deep the scratch is.

Can be combined with other methods

Let's not forget that this method is not only simple, but can also bring quite a good result, which we expect so much. In addition, the given paste has a long shelf life, so it is not a problem to have it available for any future time. It is also not a problem to use it in combination with various other methods. And for example, such that we use special correctors for deeper scratches. Then we take this sanding and polishing paste in hand again to give the place a perfect look. Of course, the result depends both on the depth of the scratch itself and on how old our car is and how old its paint is. The most perfect results are logically mainly for newer cars.
