History of Skoda 120 S

When you say old rally Skoda, you usually think of the 130 RS . But that's not the only type that shined on rally tracks. For example, there was already a special 200 RS before it. And even earlier, the racing sedan 120 S , which we will introduce today.

The 110 L Rallye sedan, which was based on the 110 sedan, had already been homologated. Type 120 S was the next stage of development of the competition car. Production took place only for racing purposes, although a few pieces were produced for homologation purposes. Most of them ended up with Public Safety as emergency vehicles. The gasoline four-cylinder had a volume increased to 1172 cc. Compression was 9.4 and total engine power was 47.1 kW. This was also thanks to the Weber 40 DCOE carburettor . Later, the engine even had two Weber 40 DCOE 2 , larger valves and an eight-channel cylinder head. The volume was later increased to 1295 cc. After all modifications, it was 88.3 kW. To top it all off, the car only had a four-speed gearbox. Externally, this type was distinguished from the 110 L by a different front part with a built-in impact cooler. In addition, the 120 S also had no bumpers. The weight of the entire special was 897 kg and the car could reach a speed of up to 200 km/h. The car became very successful and helped Skoda win, for example, the RAC Rally in 1974 and 1975.
