History of Tatra 97

The last type that made full use of the aerodynamic vision of the designers was the Tatra 97 . Although it was less luxurious than its bigger sisters 77 and 87 , it was structurally simpler. A one-piece windshield, a pair of front headlights and only a four-cylinder boxer OHC , which took the car to a speed of 130 km/h. Production took place between 1937 and 1939 and only 510 units were produced.

As a strategic location, Kopřivnice was occupied by Germany already on October 10, 1938. Immediately after the occupation of the factory, the car's documentation was taken to Germany and an order was also issued to stop production. Allegedly so that the Tatra 97 would not threaten the sales of the KdF Wagen (later Volkswagen Beetle ), but the pricing policy of these cars did not make them competitors, so the real reason remains hidden from us.
