GMC is planning a model without a base in Chevrolet!

The current range of the American brand GMC only includes models that are directly based on the corresponding Chevrolet cars . However, according to the latest reports, it looks like we could be seeing the first stand-alone car soon. At least that was indicated by the head of global planning of the GM concern .

All current GMC models are more or less modified versions of Chevrolets . The Terrain model has a sibling in the form of the Equinox, the Acadia is a redesigned Travers , the Yukon is a Tahoe and a Suburban, the Sierra has a related Silverado, and the new Canyon is based on the Colorado. According to GM Mark Reuss , director of global product planning, this interdependence could offer an exception. At the recent auto show in Detroit , when asked if we would ever see a GMC model without a base in Chevrolet , he answered yes.

He did not mention more details, which of course does not prevent speculation about possible variants. Since GMC specializes in SUVs and pickups, an addition to one of those categories is most likely. The brand currently has a complete range of cars with a body, and only a small urban representative is missing among the SUVs. The latter is therefore a hot favorite for the new model, which could be remotely based on the Granite concept (photo in the gallery), which was presented at the Detroit Auto Show in 2010. The basis in this case will probably be the Gamma II platform, on which the successful Buick Encore (Chevrolet Trax, Opel Mokka) stands.

Of course, it is possible that we are mistaken and the novelty will be a completely different model. Time will tell, but we will definitely not see the cancellation of the development, because currently GMC is reportedly doing very well and the investment in the brand will pay off for the concern. However, we do not dare to estimate the date of arrival yet.
