Will the Toyota GT 86 also get KERS?

Although the new Toyota GT 86 was talked about when it arrived on the world markets as a compact and above all playful hatchback with a six-speed manual at a reasonable price with an output of 200 horsepower, which is supposed to guarantee an unrepeatable experience behind the wheel at sustainable running costs, from the beginning of production everyone was it is clear that the first information about much more powerful variants will begin to appear soon.

But where does the right path lead? One of the many options is to equip the existing power unit with a turbocharger, which would increase the output to 224 kW (equal to 300 hp), following the example of the sister model from the Subaru workshops. The TRD ( Toyota Racing Development ) division itself is then preparing a tuning package with a supercharger, thanks to which the performance should increase to the same 300 horsepower as in the case of Subaru. Are there other options?

They are. According to chief engineer Tetsuya Tada , the future of this sporty Toyota lies in connection with a hybrid system, which in this case would be represented by a technology similar to the KERS system known from Formula 1 races. In addition, Toyota already has experience in this regard thanks to the TS030 prototype, which was presented this year at Le Mans . However, the question remains whether the model would be equipped with heavy batteries, in which the obtained energy would be stored, or lighter capacitors at a disproportionately higher price.

And a little thought at the end. Wasn't it better for all motoring fans in the days when car companies were not bound by all possible eco-regulations, which have the task of reducing the average produced unwanted emissions? No turbo or complex hybrid systems. The world was ruled by honest atmospheric engines of arbitrary volume, which had a single task. Bringing joy..
