Ferrari boss is open to hybrid models

Ferrari intends to focus more on hybrid models in the future. This follows from an interview with the president of the car company, Luci di Montezemolo , which was given to Bloomberg TV .

"I don't believe in electric cars, I believe in hybrids," said di Montezemolo. He wants to build on the success of the limited LaFerrari supercar , which was shown this year in Geneva.

Montezemolo believes that hybrid drives could make Ferrari cars even more exclusive . Thanks to the higher earnings on one model with a hybrid drive, the car company would gradually reduce production and thus make its models even more attractive.

In addition, luxury models with a hybrid drive have been doing very well recently. In the field of super sports, Porsche , McLaren or BMW operate with this drive. In the segment of luxury limousines or SUVs, the share of hybrid versions is even more striking. The growing interest in similar cars was also noted by the IHS Automotive agency, according to which up to 56,364 luxury hybrid cars will be sold in 2016. For comparison, 5,938 such models were sold last year.

In addition to hybrid models, the head of the car company also wants to make money from the high degree of individualization of its models and from various products with the prancing horse logo: "I would like to have different Ferraris for different Ferraris," said di Montezemolo . "We have a lot of parallel activities that can increase revenue without making more cars," he added.

Finally, I will add a few numbers. Ferrari will start the production reduction strategy already this year, when it intends to produce 6,900 cars – 400 less than last year. Nevertheless, this year the Maranell-based carmaker expects profits of around 350 million euros – the most in the company's entire history. In addition to the LaFerrari, the latest 458 Speciale model , which interested parties will see for the first time in less than a month in Frankfurt, will help with this.
