The Espace will no longer be an MPV, but a crossover

The French car manufacturer Renault introduced the Espace model back in 1984 and it is still produced today. It is a large MPV, which, among other things, is also referred to as the first European MPV . The fourth generation, which has recently been modernized , is currently on sale. But now the management of Renault has announced that the new Espace will no longer be an MPV, but a crossover .

The following statement was confirmed by Renault's chief designer, Laurens van den Acker , who stated: "Yes, it is indeed so. European customers are slowly moving from minivans to crossovers, which allow travel with a better view”. The upcoming crossover will be the first model to ride on the all-new CFM1 modular platform. Renault worked together with Nissan on that one. Crossover Espace will also be sold in China together with models – Koleos, Laguna, Mégane, Fluence and Scénic.

Renault is investing about 420 million euros in the northern French factory in Douai, where the new generation Laguna and Espace will be produced together with the Scénic. The concept study of the new Espace could be revealed at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show, while the production form will probably be shown next year at the Geneva show.
