It has been known for a long time that the DS 4 and DS 5 models are not exactly among the sales blockbusters. Therefore, it is not surprising that speculation has recently begun about their end. And it looks like that will indeed be the case, as the automaker's management wants a fleet of all-new models.
Even the British newspaper Autocar stated in its article that the production of the DS 4 and DS 5 models has already ended and now they are only selling out of stock. It's no surprise that production has come to an end, as only 11,746 DS 4 cars were sold in the European market last year, while the DS 5 sold even less – 5,738 cars to be exact in the same period.
A PSA spokesperson said: "From the beginning it was envisaged that production of the DS 4 and DS 5 models would end in 2018 as part of the new plan. This will be followed by the unveiling of an all-new electrified compact model, which will premiere at this year's Paris Motor Show."
The brand's new flagship since last year is the DS 7 Crossback, which is also part of the latest product plan. As for the upcoming novelty, it should be an electrified DS 3 Crossback model. It will be the second electrified model, as the first was the hybrid DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 4×4 PHEV. As for the smaller DS 3, it will continue to be sold with petrol engines, but will no longer offer diesels. The expected DS 3 Crossback should compete with, for example, the Audi Q2.
DS still has plans for another flagship, specifically a sedan aimed mainly at the BMW 5 series, but it will play an important role in sales, especially in the Chinese market. It is hard to say if he will ever look at Europe. On the European continent, SUVs rather than sedans sizzle.
