Daihatsu has shown the first pictures of the new roadster

The return of the Daihatsu Copen was already on the horizon during the presentation of the Kopen study in December. However, after the publication of pictures of the car with camouflage panels, it is clear as day that the successful kei roadster will receive a second generation after a few years.

It will primarily target a younger audience or the female part of the population. Not only will you be able to color-match your Copen to your current mood thanks to thirteen replaceable body panels , but Daihatsu is also planning something similar for the interior. The folding roof will be preserved, which will be similar to that of the sheet metal predecessor. Its folding will take place electronically and should take a maximum of 20 seconds .

Under the bodywork, the new Copen will use the D-Frame skeleton , which is supposed to be three times stiffer than the skeleton of the original model. The torsional stiffness of the body will also be better, which will ensure better driving characteristics and driving comfort, as well as the aerodynamics of the car.

Under the hood we find a turbocharged three-cylinder with a volume of 0.66 liters with a power of 64 hp and a torque of 92 Nm. Power will be sent to the front wheels by a five-speed manual or a seven-speed super active CVT automatic . Consumption should also drop – with an automatic to about 3.97 l/100 km, with a manual to 4.5 l/100 km.
