Daihatsu presents the third generation of the Tanto model

For a long time, Daihatsu has been competing with Suzuki for the position of the most popular brand among cars in the kei class . In recent years, Honda has also joined these two juices, so Daihatsu has to act – that's why we can imagine the third generation of the Tanto model .

It is in every way better and more mature than the previous one. In terms of appearance, two lines are available – classic and sportier Custom . You can tell the two models apart for sure, because the Custom offers a different grille, LEDs in the front and rear lights, a roof spoiler and larger wheels. If we were to compare the new and the old Tanto, we will find that the most changes have taken place in the front.

However, Daihatsu mainly worked on the interior. Perhaps the biggest change between generations is the use of side sliding doors and the absence of a B-pillar – something similar is also offered by the Ford B-Max. This makes getting into the car much easier. Compared to the previous generation, there is also more space in the new Tanto – 12 cm more headroom for rear passengers, and 2 cm more space for front passengers. After folding down the rear bench, which can also be moved within a range of 240 mm, a completely flat surface is created for the first time in the history of the model. This can be further expanded by folding or moving the passenger seat.

The cabin design is unconventional with alarm clocks in the middle of the center console. Alternatively, it can be equipped with navigation , and as standard we can find automatic air conditioning and radio controls on it. An eight-inch flip-up screen for rear seat passengers is also new.

The drive is provided by the 0.6 petrol unit , which is offered in both atmospheric and turbocharged form. The transmission of power to the front or all wheels is handled exclusively by the CVT automatic . The basic price of the Tanto is 1,170,000 yen (approx. 226,000 CZK), the Tanto Custom starts at 1,470,000 yen (approx. 285,000 CZK).
