We went to the workshops of the company Tym – motorsport, which is involved in many activities related to racing, among other things, it manufactures custom-certified protective frames for racing cars, restores older cars, builds, rents and services racing cars for several crews and drivers in various disciplines such as rally, circuit racing, autocross, rallycross, drift racing or uphill racing. But something else attracted us here, namely the construction of replicas of the legendary Skoda 120 S, 130 LA, 130 LR and especially the 130 RS. In addition, they are developing parts for these cars that are already in short supply.
The company was founded in 2008 by its owner Jan Vostrý, and since then 7 replicas of 130 RS cars have been created in the local workshops. It was clearly the most successful Czech competition car until the arrival of the new Fabia S2000. It was also nicknamed the "Czech Stratos" because, like the Lancia, the 130 RS was built completely for racing purposes. Building replicas has its difficulties, most of the parts are no longer available, so the company is also involved in the production of new parts for these cars. The first in production was the steep steering, but other components soon followed. And how did we get to this company? Do you still remember the yellow Skoda Rapid ? So it was renovated in the company Tym – motorsport.
But how does the construction of such a piece actually take place? At the beginning, there is usually a Skoda 110 R, which is in such a state that it is practically impossible to save it. The entire frame of the car is completely repaired and boiled, and only then does the improvement come into play. Next comes the engine, on which virtually all parameters change. The volume will be increased, the camshaft will be replaced, new and better Weber carburetors will be tuned. The air intake and exhaust system have been completely redesigned. The gearbox or differential cannot be neglected during modifications. If you improve the engine parameters, you must also be able to transfer the higher power to the road and be able to use it there, so a complete modification of the entire chassis and brake system also comes into play. The axles are reinforced, and the Tymákov family press the rear ones themselves. The arms are changed, the front ones are extended, the rear trailing arms have an inclined swing at an angle of 15°, a stabilizer is installed. There can be harder silent blocks on the axles, but also on the engine. It all really depends on whether you want to build a replica for racing or for normal riding at vintage events etc.
The roof, doors and hoods are made of aluminum to make the car lighter. On the contrary, the wider fenders, so typical for the 130 RS, are made of laminate. This is how they saved kilograms even then in Skoda factories. Additional weight will be saved by the macrolon side windows, which also have sliding doors. Even then, aerodynamics were thought of, the RS received a front spoiler with holes for cooling the brakes, the rear spoiler was part of the engine cover. The inside of the car is dominated by racing seats, of course replicas of period seats. A protective frame, modified instrument panel or padding, racing seat belts and a jacking device cannot be missing. The rims, which are a faithful copy of the original racing rims that Skoda used in the 70s, underline the illusion of a proper appearance. Then it only depends on the imagination of each owner, how they will complete their car. Whether he will install additional headlights and what color he will choose for his eReSu. In the workshops of Tym – motorsport, a white Skoda with a blue stripe or a yellow one with black stickers, reminiscent of the period coloring of the Chemopetrol Litvínov team, was created for the customer. Just a reminder, the customer didn't like the exact color scheme. But most of the company's customers have the same taste and choose the blue stripes and red edging on the bottom of the vehicle with which the AZNP factory team entered the famous Rallye Monte Carlo in 1977. After all, when I also order the production of my 130 RS (I emphasize until, not when), so I'll probably lean towards this option as well.
Two RS 130s from the Tymákov workshops have found their owners in Germany. The newer 130 LR was borrowed from the team by Emil Triner, former Skoda Motorsport factory driver, champion of the Republic in the Sprint Rally and in the Historic Rally. František Motl, Václav Arazim, František Markvart and Antonín Adolf sat in cars from this workshop. That's quite a collection of famous names, don't you think? I'm not even surprised if you're already tempted to have one hundred and thirty at home. This competition car is already a cult and legendary car, whose popularity and value will only grow. For now, we can at least promise you that you will definitely not see these cars for the last time here.
