This year, Skoda is entering the 4th edition of the Schloss Bensberg Classics with two automotive jewels . At the Rallye Historique with a prominent cast, which takes place on the first day of the event, the Czech carmaker will be represented on the starting field by Skoda Popular Monte Carlo . On the second day, the Skoda 860 from 1932 will be presented to the critical eyes of the jury as part of the Concours d'Elegance .
The elegant Skoda Popular Monte Carlo coupe dates from 1937 and is a real rarity. A total of only 72 convertible and coupe body cars were produced between 1936 and 1938 as a special edition of the Popular model. This special series was a reminder of the car company's success at the Monte Carlo Rally in 1936. At that time, Zdeněk Pohl and Jaroslav Hausman in the Skoda Popular car placed second in the category of cars up to 1500 cm³ and 20th in the overall rating.
Under the hood of the Skoda Popular Monte Carlo is a four-stroke four-cylinder engine with a volume of 1386 cm³ and an output of 30 horsepower. The maximum speed is 110 km/h, but today the maximum speed of the aging car is no longer fully utilized. In Bensberg , Popular Monte Carlo will take part in the Rallye Historique , which takes place on Saturday. There are 150 kilometers on the program, leading through the beautiful Bergisches Land region near Cologne .
Another gem is the Skoda 860 open luxury car from 1932. Between 1929 and 1933, a total of less than a hundred cars were produced. The number 860 indicates the number of cylinders, or engine power. The initial number 8 resembles a water-cooled inline eight cylinder with a volume of 3880 cubic centimeters, the numerical marking 60 means performance in horsepower. The majestic car with a total length of 5.4 meters was created in 1932, when the body type 860 was custom-made by the Prague company Jech.
Schloss Bensberg Classics is taking place for the fourth time this year, having already been accepted into the Louis Vuitton Classic Concours Award circuit two years ago. This places the company among renowned competitions of automotive elegance, such as Pebble Beach in California or Villa d'Este in Italy.
