Citroën showed the new generation MPV C4 Picasso

After the Technospace concept in Geneva and the unveiling of the production model in the official video , the appearance of the new Citroën C4 Picasso can no longer be a surprise. However, the technical data might interest you to a certain extent.

But we will start gradually. The exterior design is practically no different from the Technospace concept. Of course, the futuristic color is missing, but the main design element – the headlights – has remained. As the main headlights, Citroën presents the larger ones, above which sits a narrow strip of LEDs for daytime running lights . An interesting, novel but also controversial solution. In profile, the French carmaker kept the egg-shaped shape that the Xsara Picasso already had. At the back, the design is noticeably calmer than at the front. Conventional lights, however, will also offer LEDs and are even intended to give the impression that they are lit in 3D . Eight colors and 16-, 17- or 18-inch wheels will be available at the start of sales.

The interior has also not changed much compared to the Technospace concept. Compared to the previous Picasso, Citroën promises higher quality materials and better workmanship, two-tone seat upholstery or dashboard painting will be available for an additional fee. A seven-inch display will be standard for all versions, through which the driver will control most of the car's functions. Above this display is another 12-inch display, which replaces classic analog alarm clocks and also displays navigation.

In terms of dimensions, the Picasso has shrunk – by 40 mm in length, even by 50 mm in height. Still, Citroën says the new Picasso is bigger inside and offers more luggage space as well. How is it possible? Reportedly thanks to shortening the front end by 70 mm, which did not have to take length from the passenger compartment. The wheelbase is even 55 mm longer than before. The luggage compartment is larger by 40 liters . In terms of numbers – length: 4430 mm, height: 1610 mm, width: 1830 mm, wheelbase: 2785 mm, boot volume: 537 liters, 637 liters when the rear seats are folded down.

The new Picasso sits on the EMP2 modular platform , which uses a large amount of aluminum, high-strength steel and composite materials. Thanks to this, it was possible to save 70 kg. Another 70 kg was collected by Citroën thanks to a more compact body, on which he also used light materials – for example, the hood is made of aluminum and the rear lights are made of composite materials. So it means a saving of 140 kg compared to the last generation and also that none of the versions will exceed the weight of 1300 kg!

Under the hood, one of four units will appear at the start of sales. The basic gasoline unit is a four-cylinder 1.6 VTi 120 with an output of 120 hp, the second one is a four-cylinder 1.6 THP with an output of 156 hp. The diesel units are represented by the 1.6 e-HDi 90 Airdream with 92 hp and the more powerful 1.6 HDI 115 with 114 hp. Only a five-speed manual will be available for the weaker gasoline, the brand will offer one more step for the stronger gasoline and both diesels, which will also get the option to purchase a six-speed dual-clutch automatic.
