Chevrolet has released the Spark EV's range on a single charge

Chevrolet has officially published information about the range of the upcoming electric car Spark EV. A completely new car can travel up to 132 kilometers on a single battery charge. Converted to real combined fuel consumption, this corresponds to a consumption of 1.98 l/100 km.

Compared to the average new vehicle, the Spark EV can potentially save a US owner up to $9,000 in fuel costs over five years. In the United States, the Spark will go on sale this summer in the states of California and Oregon. It will come to selected European markets in 2014.

The Spark EV will be the first car on the market to offer the newly approved SAE Combo charger for DC fast charging. This will allow the car to be charged to 80% capacity in approximately 20 minutes . At the same time, the battery system is able to undergo such a fast charging with direct current many times a day. Charging with alternating current from a standard 230 V socket takes approximately six to eight hours. The charging cable is part of the standard equipment.

The Chevrolet Spark EV can accelerate to 100 km/h in less than 8.5 seconds. Its heart is a GM-developed, oil-cooled electric motor with permanent magnets with a power of over 100 kW. Energy is stored in accumulators with a capacity of 21 kWh. Over 1.6 million kilometers on the road with the test version of the Spark EV allowed engineers to achieve the best possible performance of the electric motor.
