Borgward rises from the ashes

The last car with the Borgward logo left the German factories 54 years ago, while two years later the definitive demise of the famous car company came. A few years ago, the rights to use the Borgward name and logo were bought by the Chinese automaker Foton , which invested a lot of money in the project to revive the manufacturer. The first swallow is the BX 7 SUV with a petrol and plug-in hybrid unit.

The 4.7 meter long model can carry seven people (5, 6 or 7 seat configuration) or up to 1344 liters of cargo , but the design has not escaped considerable controversy. Leaving aside the fact that it resembles a Mazda CX-5, DS 6 WR or Audi Q5 from various angles, we have a huge radiator grille with chrome ribs, the size of which is emphasized by the distinctive diamond logo of the automaker . The rear parts, on the other hand, are as simple as possible, even instead of the logo, there is only the inscription "Borgward" between the large group lamps. The interior is missing from the photos released so far, but its centerpiece should be a multimedia system with a 12.3-inch screen, smartphone connectivity and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Under the jacket, there is either a turbocharged petrol two-liter four-cylinder engine with an output of 224 hp or a plug-in hybrid (a petrol unit drives the front wheels and an electric motor at the rear wheels) with a total output of 401 hp and an electric range of 55 kilometers. The gasoline engine works with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to all wheels with an electronically controlled BorgWarner multi-plate clutch. In order for a car to succeed in the fight against European safety rules today, a 360-degree camera system , pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control or a pre-collision system must not be missing in the equipment.

From the beginning, the main sales area should be China , where the BX 7 will reach as early as next year. The model will head to Europe a year later for a base price of around 26,000 euros (approx. 704,000 crowns).
