BMW showed the larger 2 Series Active Tourer

Last year's Geneva Motor Show was surprised by the first spacious car from BMW , additionally equipped with front-wheel drive. This year, the 2 Series Active Tourer returns to the Swiss city again, only with room for up to seven passengers!

The 2 Series Gran Tourer has grown in length to 4556 mm, all the extra millimeters have been stored in the rear, which is now a bit more muscular and has a new fifth door cover. The width remained at 1800 mm, while the height is 1608 mm – 53 mm higher than the Active Tourer. The increase in dimensions and wheelbase to 2,780 mm had a positive effect especially on the space in the cabin. It now carries up to seven passengers , but the standard Gran Tourer is still a five-seater. In this configuration, the luggage compartment has a basic volume of 645-805 liters (the second row of seats divided in a ratio of 40:20:40 is sliding in the range of 130 mm), after folding the seats, this value increases to 1905 liters. If you check the third row of seats in the list of additional equipment, the few moves completely disappear under the floor of the trunk , the basic volume of the luggage drops to 560 liters and the maximum to 1820 liters.

Similar to the strictly five-seat Active Tourer, the newcomer is available with five TwinPower Turbo turbocharged power units . The basis is a three-cylinder 15 -liter gasoline engine with an output of 136 hp and a torque of 220 Nm in the 218i version . The 220i version has a four-cylinder two-liter engine with an output of 192 hp and a torque of 280 Nm. The diesel range also starts with a three-cylinder fifteen-cylinder engine with an output of 116 hp and a torque of 270 Nm in the 216d version , respectively a two-liter four-cylinder engine with an output of 150 hp and a torque of 330 Nm in the 218d version . The highlight is the 190-horsepower four-cylinder with a torque of 400 Nm in the 220d version , which is currently only available with xDrive all-wheel drive (front-wheel drive will come in the summer together with the 216i model). The standard is a six-speed manual for front wheels and an eight-speed automatic for four-wheelers, three-cylinders can get a six-speed automatic for an extra charge, and four-cylinders an eight-speed automatic.

It has already become a tradition that the Munich automaker offers each model in several equipment lines. In addition to the standard version, the Gran Tourer is thus available in Advantage equipment with two-zone automatic air conditioning, cruise control, parking assistant and multifunction steering wheel, Sport Line with body kit, unique alloy wheels and sports seats, Luxury Line with chrome details and leather upholstery and M Sport with aerodynamic M package, M Sport steering wheel and seats, and a chassis lowered by 10 mm. The premiere in the seven-seater MPV is celebrated by the myKIDIO application , which allows children to watch movies, series or read audiobooks on a tablet on long journeys, but parents have a constant overview of what their children are playing and can possibly change the selection via the iDrive controller.
