BMW is preparing a spiritual successor to the Z3

We already know that BMW will launch a platform with front-wheel drive. But now foreign sources have revealed the news that the automaker is planning a spiritual successor to the Z3 . According to the first information, it should bear the designation Z2 , but will it be as good as the older Z3?

If you were looking forward to the fact that BMW would have a rear-wheel drive roadster again, I have to disappoint you. The new UKL modular platform , which has front-wheel drive, will become the basis for the above-mentioned Z2 model . After all, the German brand wants to completely remake the 1 series to front-wheel drive. This means that the new generation of the 1 series, the X1 and the X2 SUV-coupe derived from it will also be built on this platform, and last but not least, the expected five-seater/seven-seater MPV called the 1 GT.

To make matters worse, the BMW Z2 will be available with a basic 1.5 -liter three-cylinder gasoline engine or a 2.0 -liter four-cylinder. The most powerful version should offer up to 300 horsepower , while the most economical alternative will be a three-cylinder diesel with CO2 emissions below 100 g/km.

The premiere could take place during 2016 and the starting price is estimated at 23,300 Euros (about 602,000 crowns in conversion).
