BMW has officially revealed the 2 Series coupe

One of the least surprising premieres of this year – that's how you could briefly characterize the full unveiling of the BMW 2 Series in the coupe version. We already know the technical data of selected versions and even the final form of the most powerful version of the M235i from the past days and weeks.

However, it is only now that we can get away with the full presentation of the new product, which wants to follow up on its successful predecessor in the form of the 1 Series coupe . In contrast, it is 72 mm longer, 32 mm wider, 5 mm lower and has a 30 mm longer wheelbase. If you like numbers, the 2 Series is 4432mm long (M235i 4454mm), 1774mm wide, 1418mm high (M235I 1408mm) and has a wheelbase of 2690mm. The volume of the luggage compartment jumped to 390 liters .

Compared to its predecessor, the bodywork is much more aerodynamic with a drag coefficient of cx = 0.29. The design combines elements already known from the 1 series or larger models 3, 7 and SUV X5. The interior also does not bring any great revolution within the design of the Munich car company – a 6.5 or 8.8-inch display of the iDrive multimedia system rises on top of the center console, and the list of extras includes leather upholstery or real wood paneling.

Under the hood, exclusively turbocharged engines using BMW TwinPower Turbo technology will appear. The basic gasoline unit will be the 220i version with a two-liter engine with a power of 184 hp and a torque of 270 Nm. The coupe with this engine accelerates to 100 km/h in 7 seconds and attacks the limit of 235 km/h. The second gasoline model is the top version of the M235i , which uses a three-liter six-cylinder under its hood with a power of 326 hp and a torque of 450 Nm. The sharp model attacks the hundred-kilometer mark in 5 seconds (4.8 seconds with an automatic), while the maximum speed is limited to 250 km/h.

There are a total of three diesel versions, using the services of a two-liter engine . The basic 218d has 143 hp and 320 Nm, accelerates to 100 km/h in 8.9 s (8.6 with the eight-speed automatic) and has a maximum speed of 213 km/h. The more powerful 220d model offers 184 hp and 380 Nm, thanks to which the coupé accelerates in 7.2 s (with automatic 7.1 s) and reaches 230 km/h. The top version is the 225d with a power of 218 hp and a torque of 450 Nm, thanks to which the model accelerates in 6.3 seconds and goes to a maximum of 242 km/h.

Sales of the new coupe will start in March next year at a base price of 29,800 euros (approx. 768,000 CZK) for the 218d version. The basic 220i gasoline unit will cost 29,950 euros (approx. 772,000 CZK) and the most powerful M235i model will cost at least 43,750 euros (approx. 1,128,000 CZK). Similar to the brand's other models, it will be possible to choose from the Sport Line , Modern Line and M Sport equipment packages for the 2 Series.
