BMW unveils three-door i3 for LA Auto Show

BMW is absolutely serious about electromobility. After last year's premiere of the i8 Coupé and i3 concepts, this year it showed the i8 Spyder and now also shows a sportier version of the i3 concept.

It's called Coupé , but it's not quite a coupe. Especially when you find out it rides on the same 2570mm wheelbase as the five-door model. Still, there are more than enough design changes. In the front part, everything remains the same, however, you can tell from the profile that the all-glass doors have disappeared, replaced by the classic ones with lacquered panels. Of course, a couple of doors have been lost and the taillights have also changed. Finally, BMW repainted the concept in orange and added much sportier wheels.

At first glance, the interior has not undergone any major changes, but upon closer inspection you will find that it is much closer to the production car. The steering wheel and the entire center console have changed, where the multifunctional display has undergone the biggest changes. The buttons below it are also less futuristic.

But nothing has changed under the hood – you will still find an electric motor with a power of 170 hp and a torque of 250 Nm. A single-speed gearbox then drives the rear wheels. The lithium-ion batteries that help propel the car are located under the floor.

The serial form of the i3 is expected already next year, and in addition to the purely electric version, a plug-in hybrid version should also appear. The price has not yet been determined.
