Audi will present the ~gas~ A3 in Geneva

After a few years, Geneva again dresses in green . At least that's what the Volkswagen concern has planned. At his stand, we will see the car with the lowest fuel consumption in the world , and a little further away, at Audi , the electric A3 e-tron and also the CNG-burning A3 g-tron will premiere.

This will be stored in two tanks (weighing 27 kg each) located under the rear seats. Each tank holds 7 kg of CNG , compressed to a value of 200 bars. Figl hides the g-tron in an electronic gas pressure regulator . This will help to adjust the pressure in two steps to a value of 5-9 bars and will automatically switch to the 1.4 TSI petrol engine if the pressure drops to 10 bars.

However, switching to the gasoline unit is also done manually, using a button on the center panel, and for example, a cold start always runs exclusively on gasoline. And speaking of the petrol unit – it has a power of 110 hp and a maximum torque of 200 Nm. The consumption of the specially modified A3 is around 3.5 kg of CNG per 100 km, the range is a full 1300 km (400 on CNG + 900 on petrol).

Audi further mentions in its report that classic CNG can be replaced by its own e-gas fuel . It is produced in the German village of Werlte and is actually synthetic methane (e-gas) from CO2 and electricity from renewable sources. The amount of this gas produced at the Werlte plant will cover the consumption of 1,500 new Audi A3 Sportback g-tron cars , assuming that each one drives an average of 15,000 kilometers per year, with a CO2 neutral balance.
