Audi Q7 e-tron – Hybrid giant coming soon

The German car manufacturer Audi is working on a new generation of the large SUV model Q7 . One of the confirmed variants will be the e-tron hybrid version, which will complement the range of cars powered by classic petrol or diesel engines.

The fact that Audi decided not to send the R8 e-tron electric sports car into production does not mean that the technology and knowledge gained during its development will go to waste. The proof is the A3 e-tron hybrid model, which was presented in March at the Geneva Motor Show. Next up is the Q7 e-tron .

The new generation of the Audi Q7 will stand on a new platform shared with the Volkswagen Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne , whose new generations will be presented as early as next year. Large SUVs from Bentley and Lamborghini will also get the same base, but their arrival is still quite far away.

In the new generation, the Audi Q7 promises to significantly lose weight and become more ecological. The e-tron hybrid version should also help with this. But for now, we don't know what specific internal combustion engine it will use. The smaller A3 e-tron uses a 1.4 TFSI four-cylinder petrol engine, but a diesel unit would make more sense for the Q7 e-tron . A hybrid system with a diesel engine is also used by the very successful special for Le Mans, so it would not be out of place to use similar technology in a large SUV.

The second-generation Audi Q7 is scheduled to arrive in late 2015, and we expect the e-tron hybrid variant to arrive a bit later.
