Audi presents laser headlights in Las Vegas

We already know the Audi Matrix LED technology from the modernized version of the A8 limousine . However, the German automaker is not resting on its laurels and is exhibiting the Sport Quattro concept at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, which is helped to illuminate the road by LEDs and laser diodes .

For daytime lighting, the Sport Quattro Laserlight concept continues to use classic LEDs, but next to them we can find laser lamps in the front headlight! Despite the size of a few microns , laser lights have up to three times the light intensity of LEDs and can illuminate up to 500 meters on the road. The only competitor in this direction is BMW with the i8 model , whose laser lights can illuminate 100 meters more of the road. Although we will have to wait for serial use, laser lights will appear in racing deployment, specifically the R18 e-tron quattro model, this year.

If we focus on the Sport Quattro concept , it has undergone only one significant change compared to the Frankfurt form – the yellow jacket has been replaced by red Plasma . Under the hood, we continue to find a plug-in hybrid system combining a four-liter twin-turbo eight-cylinder and an electric motor with a total output of 700 horsepower and a torque of 800 Nm. This will allow the Laserlight concept to reach a top speed of 305 km/h, accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and consume only 2.5 liters of petrol per 100 km.
