Audi is preparing an urban crossover

The Nissan Juke hit exactly the gap that had not been filled in the market until then. It is therefore not surprising that after the successful establishment of this extravagant model, other car companies rushed in with their own interpretation of the urban crossover . So far, the last brand to enter the segment will be Audi with the Q1 model .

Audi's "baby SUV" will first appear on the market in early 2016 and will offer design elements that will already be carried by the second generation of the large Q7 SUV or the smaller Q5 SUV by then. Along with the Q1 , a second small SUV will also arrive – the sportier Q2 , which will be seen in last year's Crossline Coupé concept.

Both Q1 and Q2 will be characterized by a high degree of individualization . Audi plans to offer many upholstery colors as well as several designs for the trapezoidal grille that will become a hallmark of Audi's SUV. The interior will take over many details from the larger A3 or the next generation A1. The MMI multimedia system will appear as standard in each version, as a libation to the young generation that both the Q1 and Q2 will target.

Under the appropriate jacket, we will find the old familiar MQB platform in its shortest form, which will also be available in the new Polo or the second generation Audi A1. While the Audi Q1 will not exceed 4 meters in length, the Q2 will be around 4250 mm. The Q2 will also be wider than the Q1 (1,900 mm vs. 1,750 mm), so it will only be about 70 mm behind the Q1 in height.

Turbocharged engines in combination with the stop-start system will get the most space under the hood. The basic unit will be a liter three-cylinder from the VW Up!, which will be complemented by a turbocharged 1.2 and a newly developed 1.4 TFSI from the Audi A3 e-tron , thanks to which we will also see a plug-in hybrid Q1 . At the very top of the offer will be the SQ1 model with a turbocharged sixteen-cylinder engine with a power of around 200 horsepower, which wants to flood the Juku Nismo. The range of diesel engines will include several performance variants of the 1.4 TDI and 1.6 TDI units. The basic transmission for all engines will be a six-speed manual, but a ten-speed DSG automatic will also be offered for an extra charge.
