The 2014 Audi A4 will receive a substantial redesign

The world is getting the first information about the new generation of the popular Audi A4 , which should arrive in early 2014. Compared to the current version, it should have a lower weight and also more luxurious standard equipment.

The first more specific news about the new A4 was brought by the German AutoBild . They state that Audi technicians work tirelessly to make every detail of the luxury sedan a little better than before. As a result, a more luxurious interior and a lot of equipment are expected.

In terms of weight, the new Audi A4 is expected to reduce by 50 kilograms, which the car will owe mainly to the use of aluminum, magnesium and plastic components. We can also expect a number of other changes that could make it possible to reduce the weight by up to 100 kg, but their specific forms are not being discussed yet.

The range of engines for the new generation of the A4 model should include:

1.4-liter TFSI with 150 hp and 250 Nm of torque
2.0-liter TFSI with outputs of 177 and 225 hp
2.0-liter TDI with outputs of 122, 136, 150 and 190 hp
3.0-liter V6 TDI with outputs of 218 and 272 hp

A plug-in hybrid version is also expected approximately one year after the planned introduction of serial production. It will use a 2.0-liter TFSI gasoline engine, which will be supplemented by an e-quattro system with electric motors on the front and rear axles. This, combined with a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery, will allow the A4 to travel fully electric for up to 50 kilometers.
