The updated Ford Focus will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show

The current third generation Ford Focus has been on the market since 2011 , and therefore it was only a matter of time before we would see a modernized version , as the three-year interval is the most common turning point for a car. I must point out that I like the revised Focus much more than the new Mondeo or Fiesta after the facelift, which has a larger grille on the front .

In particular, the front part has undergone innovation, which boasts a new six-point grille, slimmer headlights with a sharper expression, a differently profiled hood and, last but not least, a new bumper. The updated Focus follows in the footsteps of the new Mondeo, which was the first to boast a new Aston Martin-style grille . The rear has thinner lamps with revised graphics, a new bumper and also a changed fifth door .

As for changes in the interior, Ford complied with the wishes of its clients . The main goal was to improve the overall ergonomics , both with the redesign of the steering wheel and the reduction of buttons on the center panel. Also new is the 8-inch high-resolution touchscreen that works with the SYNC 2 system , which offers a cleaner interface. Other interior tweaks include new center console storage and dark trim and chrome detailing for the center console and door panels. Ford also promises a quieter ride, which it has achieved with thicker carpets, thicker side windows and better engine insulation .

Martin Smith , Executive Director of Ford of Europe Design, also commented on the Ford Focus facelift: "The vision was to add more emotion to our model. The new Focus has a more athletic design that promises great handling ". Of course, there is also a statement about the revised interior: "We responded to the clear wishes of the customers for greater simplicity in the cabin , which is why, for example, the reduction of buttons to the center consoles".

The updated Ford Focus will also offer new power units on the European market, namely the 1.5 EcoBoost petrol engine with 150 and 180 horsepower. Fans of diesel will definitely find their way, more precisely with the 1.5 TDCi unit offering 95 and 120 horsepower. A new version of the turbocharged three-cylinder EcoBoost engine will also appear under the hood, which, according to the automaker, will be the first non-hybrid gasoline family car in Europe, emitting less than 100 g of CO 2 /km into the atmosphere. The 2.0 TDCi diesel engine with a power of 150 hp has also undergone modifications, which with the manual is 14%, or with an automatic, 13% more economical than the previous model. In the US, customers there will get a turbocharged three-cylinder 1.0 EcoBoost , which will be connected exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission , because Ford says that Americans despise automatics.

According to Ford, the new Focus is better to drive than its predecessor mainly thanks to a number of modifications, including a stiffer front axle, modified suspension, retuned shock absorbers, electronic power steering and new electronic stability control. Technologies in the updated Focus include hands-free parking technology called Perpendicular Parking, which helps the driver back into the space between other cars, the introduction of a collision warning system and a modified version of the Active City Stop system , which now operates at speeds up to 50 km/h.

Ford has not yet announced anything about the modernized Focus ST , but we will definitely see its premiere soon, and there is more and more talk about the planned Focus RS , so we certainly have something to look forward to. The five-door hatchback together with the practical station wagon will premiere in a few days at the Geneva Motor Show , while the modernized four-door sedan will probably be presented at the New York Motor Show in April.
