The American derivative of the European Honda Accord has slowly rung its bell. The Acura TSX will be replaced later this year by the new TLX sedan , which will also compete in the Pirelli World Challenge GT racing series.
The pre-production Acura TLX, which is 96.5 mm shorter than the TSX model but rides on the same 2,776 mm wheelbase , is perhaps only striking with its Athletic Red Pearl paint and twenty-inch wheels. In the rest of the details, it is a typical Acura with everything. The rendering of the front LED lights with the Jewel Eye designation is interesting. Acura will certainly not use the aerodynamic bodykit that the pre-production model is proud of in the basic models.
The series version will get a pair of engines under the hood – the four- cylinder 2.4 will be combined with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, the six-cylinder 3.5 will even be combined with a nine-speed automatic. Both models will have standard front-wheel drive with an improved P-AWS system, the six-cylinder will have the option of SH-AWD all-wheel drive , which will offer torque vectoring.
The GT racing version , which also has its premiere in Detroit, will compete in the Pirelli World Challenge GT class , where it will compete with, for example, the Lamborghini Gallardo, Chevrolet Corvette, Nissan GT-R or Ferrari 458. In order for the sedan to withstand this competition, it received a new chassis developed by the Honda Performance Development department, and a twin-turbocharged six-cylinder under the hood in combination with all-wheel drive.
