Abarth does not expect to produce its roadster or a 500L derivative

Abarth flirted with the idea of producing its own stand-alone model a few years ago. The most likely option appeared to be a classic small roadster that would compete with the Mazda MX-5.

But as Marco Magnanini , the head of Abarth , told Autocar, the Italian automaker currently has no plans to launch its own model. Although he did not state the reason, it is clear that a similar car would simply not be financially worthwhile for the brand.

As well as the small roadster, we will not see sharp versions of the Fiat 500L and Panda , which were often speculated in connection with the scorpion logo. According to Magnanini, these models are "at odds with the Abarth brand." The automaker will thus focus on the existing 500, 500C and Punto models.

And for the third negation, this time in the matter of a more powerful engine under the hoods of the existing model lines: "We are happy to have a perfect balance between power and weight," said the Abarth boss directly when asked if the turbocharged 1.4 could be replaced by a 1.75 TBi unit in the future from Alfa Romeo.
