We recently informed you that the American version of the Honda Civic was subjected to modernization after harsh criticism from the media and customers. Now the Japanese automaker is adding more details as well as a look at the interior!
You can easily recognize the exterior after the modernization by the new mask, hood and modified lights at the front and especially other lights, the trunk lid and the new bumper at the back. However, only the sedan underwent these changes, the coupe remains unchanged. A specialty in the sporty Si version , which offers sportier bumpers, sill extensions, a rear wing or a sporty exhaust tip.
The interior has already been upgraded for both versions! To the touch, the modernized Civic offers more pleasant, softened materials, reupholstered seats, carpets and finally an upholstered trunk lid. The center panel underwent more cosmetic changes, during which it received new air conditioning vents.
However, the most changes have clearly occurred where a normal mortal looking at a car in a car showroom will not see. Honda has tweaked the steering, which now has better steering response and better feedback as well. The reprogrammed electronic power steering is certainly also to blame for this. Stabilizers on the front axle were also adjusted, the springs and the diameter of the brake discs on versions with an automatic increased to 282 mm .
Under the hood, everything is still the same – the basis is the i-VTEC 18- cylinder gasoline engine with a power of 140 horsepower , which will be available with a 5-speed manual or an equally graduated automatic. The second unit is the 2.4 i-VTEC , which is available in the Si version and has an output of 201 hp . A 6-speed manual sends power to the road through the front wheels.
Since diesels are not very popular in America, Honda has to deal with ecology in a different way. In addition to the obligatory hybrid , which is of course also available and combines a 1.5-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor , Honda also offers a natural gas version called Natural Gas . It has a power of 110 horses.
Work was also done on the equipment of the car. The basic DX variant was dropped from the equipment spectrum, so everything remained on the LX, EX, EX-L variants and the top Si version. From the equipment, I would point out, for example, modified SmartVent side airbags, modified ABS, VSA systems, a system that monitors departure from the lane or a collision warning system.
The new Civic will go on sale in the US before the end of this year at a base price of $18,165 (approx. CZK 353,000) for the sedan and $17,965 (approx. CZK 350,000) for the coupe .
