Honda Civic Type-R 2015 will get a turbocharged two-liter!

The president of Japanese automaker Honda 's research institute, Yasuhisa Arai , has confirmed the powertrain for the upcoming Civic Type-R . It should get a new two-liter turbocharged four-cylinder under the hood and thus become the fastest car with front-wheel drive.

However, it was originally rumored that the sharp new Civic Type-R would boast "only" a 1.6 -liter turbocharged engine with around 250 horsepower . However, the Honda car manufacturer wanted to prevent speculation, and therefore confirmed a turbocharged power unit with a content of 2.0 liters and an output of 300 horsepower . And the reason for such a move? Above all, breaking the record on the Nürburgring circuit, which was procured by the Renault Mégane RS 265 Trophy .

The new generation of the Civic Type-R hot-hatchback will probably also offer a mechanical limited-slip differential and possibly turning the rear wheels into corners (we can see it, for example, with the Laguna GT ). Arai hopes that even with the use of a turbo, the engine will probably still offer the same revs and feel as the old naturally aspirated model.

The British representative of the Honda brand would like the new Civic Type-R to cost under 25,000 pounds (roughly under 790,000 crowns). But is it possible to achieve both of these goals (an affordable price and the fastest bike on the circuit)? Time will tell…
