2018 Honda Jazz 1.5i-VTEC CVT – "Tune to Jazz"

The Japanese car manufacturer Honda launched another piece in its B segment. The hatchbacks marked with a B got a new sibling. A pretty sharp and, as it seems on paper, bloated "hot-hatch".

Personally, I'm not a fan of Asian car companies and their design workshops, but the new Jazz really impresses at first glance. I personally caught my eye right away in the parking lot upon receipt. Today, I would say, the classic triple combination – white, black and red really suits the car.

Our editorial Jazz has been fine-tuned down to the finest detail. I could stand to walk around him and stare at him for hours. The black cast 16" wheels, together with the front grille and especially the rear diffuser, are really pleasing to the eye. The red-tinted details give the car a really edgy spirit. All this is balanced by white surfaces without unnecessary design (or perhaps functional) depressions. It is said that white visually enlarges, but this "hot-hatch" is also available in other color combinations, there are eight variants to choose from, and with icy calmness we can also classify it in the category of compact SUVs.

But we won't just be superficial, we'll really break away from the successful version and also look under the hood and into the interior. In the interior, the upholstery with a striped pattern catches the eye, as does the steering wheel together with the leather-covered gear lever. Everything is highlighted with red toned stitching. As for the seats, and I mean especially the ones in the first row, honestly, they could be more comfortable. I'm no expert on Pep from the competing media, but you just don't want to experience the feeling of "falling down". However, the interior can definitely be praised for its spaciousness. The Jazz is even the best in its class with 1314 liters of luggage space. It easily surpasses the new Audi A3 in the discipline of practicality when folding cargo, for example, which we also tested and an editorial test will be available shortly.

But let's move on. Actually, let's go… It can be said with a clean slate that the new Jazz really fits. With typical urban manners, you understand, maneuvers, he weaves through the column or corners of the Old Town once or twice. All you have to do is step on the pedal and the gasoline "one-five" in conjunction with the stepless CVT transmission will take care of everything. You ask yourself, what more do I or my better half need?

How about going out of town? Outside of the city and in the districts, you will simply struggle in this configuration in conjunction with the CVT transmission. And maybe even your significant other. A linear gearbox that doesn't actually "shift" (in the classic sense of the word) can put you in pretty precarious situations if you don't know the car. It is difficult to estimate from the beginning how much to move forward and (o) how much to downshift, for example when overtaking. In addition, the gearbox simply kills the 130-horsepower engine. At approx. 1200 kg in weight, this is a great herd of horses, but you can only really allow them to be reined in with a manual.

As described above, the transmission will certainly not allow you to have any performance battles on the road, in return you will have time for numerous tasks. Really! The computer that is supposed to entertain you and thus the entire infotainment is based on Android. This is a modified version that can be seen on mobile phones, so the icons for opening the gallery, the mentioned calculator or settings do not need to be described. Such an interface tempts a person to think that he could set up a small mobile office in such a spacious car loaded with applications. And indeed he could! It just needs a bit of steely nerves.

The car is usually in the editorial test for a week. You usually get to know the car and its controls in a day, two, three at the most. In this case, I failed to decipher the secret of the samurai, how to use all the potential of infotainment.

But that doesn't matter, the new Honda Jazz has never been in better shape with a stylish, sophisticated and spacious interior. I and our entire editorial team believe that the consumption of 5.4 lv combined with luggage space, space for passengers and design is the right way forward.
