Skoda is slowly preparing for the future

The latest news from the winged arrow from Mladá Boleslav gave the leaders of the parent company Volkswagen serious wrinkles on their foreheads. Not only does the Superb win comparative tests with the Passat in German magazines, but at the same time it was able to compete with the "manager's idol" in sales as well. We could also say the same about Octavia or Fabia. Looking at the upcoming range of models , one would also like to say "and it could be worse".

The main role of the upcoming "model offensive" will be played by SUVs . By 2019, Skoda will launch three models designed in this way – Snowman, Yeti and Polar. The first-named will take the position of the largest multi-purpose vehicle in the range and will be introduced with up to seven seats next year. Under its hood, in addition to the proven TSI and TDI engines, there will also be a twice-turbocharged diesel from the Passat and a plug-in hybrid system, and the introduction of a luxurious Laurin & Klement variant is also certain. In two years, the second generation Yeti will be shown with the floor components of the Superb and Octavia, which will grow to 4.4 meters. Three diesel and five gasoline power units with a power range of 125-220 hp are planned, the future of the plug-in hybrid is still unclear.

The last to join the party will be the 4.2 meter long Polar , using elements from the Fabia for a change. Across the concern, its siblings with the Audi, Seat and Volkswagen logos will appear, the premiere is scheduled for 2019. The fate of the hybrid coupe and SUV based on the Yeti is still unclear. A potential rival, for example the BMW X4, could inherit most of the technical components from the Tiguan CC , whose production is practically certain from 2019.

By how much the winged arrow will strengthen its position in the SUV segment, by how much it will weaken its position among the slowly dying large space cars . Unlike the first generation, the Roomster will no longer be a unique model, but a mere twin of the recently revealed Volkswagen Caddy , so we will at least get a full-fledged commercial Skoda. The presentation of this car could take place in a month in Frankfurt. Plans from the beginning of this year also counted on the launch of the rebranded Volkswagen T6 , but according to the latest information, it ultimately fell through.

The New small family trio, i.e. Seat Mii, Skoda Citigo and Volkswagen Up!, had a very uncertain position in the hierarchy of the concern. However, in contrast to the "Skoda T6", the German management here decided to knock off the continuation of all three cars, which will once again score points for their pleasing design, high quality workmanship and agility in the city. But since the dictates of the times are inexorable, all three minis will get an electric drive (currently only Volkswagen has it) with a power of 60 horsepower and a range of 150-200 kilometers. At the same time, the price of the electric Citigo should not exceed 15,000 euros (approx. 405,000 crowns).
