Abarth is preparing a sporty version of the 500X crossover

After the production of the somewhat embarrassing Punta ended, the model program of Abarth, which is the sports division of Fiat, only includes derivatives of the tiny 500 . But that is to change in the future. On the one hand, a sharp version of the upcoming 124 roadster is expected, but above all, a sporty version of the successful 500X crossover will come next.

The green car does not yet exist, and according to representatives of the automaker, it is "just one of the options" for now, given the sales success of not only the 500X (10,400 units were sold in Europe in the first half of the year), but also the entire segment of small SUVs, there is not much to do solve. In terms of appearance, the "off-road scorpion" would lose some of its ground clearance , on the other hand, it would get more aggressive bumpers, sill extensions, a roof spoiler or big wheels . Of course , the typical white paint job with a red stripe and the Abarth name.

Technically, the sporty 500X could also be very interesting. There is talk of using a 1.75-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (with reduced output to 200 hp) from the Alfa 4C, which is coupled to a dual-clutch automatic and rear-wheel drive in the small sports car. However, we won't see a single one in the crossover. A six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic transmission will most likely transmit power to all wheels . However, to save weight, only front wheel drive is still in play.
