Volkswagen T1 Bus in a stylish modification

Swiss coachbuilder Fred Bernhard spent six years building this detailed Volkswagen T1. At the same time, he started his life already in 1962 and came to Bernhard in a greatly impoverished state.

However, after six years of hard work, the model, popular even among hippies, looks like it just left the factory again. But don't expect any breathless engine. At the back is an air-cooled six-cylinder from a Porsche 911 (993) complete with a pair of turbochargers. In total, the minibus has 530 hp and 757 Nm . This power is transmitted to the wheels using a six-speed manual gearbox from the Porsche 911 GT3 (996), respectively a Sachs racing clutch and a locking differential. The chassis also received individual treatment, which means Bilstein shock absorbers , Eibach springs, elements from the newer VW T3 or the rear stabilizer bar from the Porsche 911 (993). The brakes, ABS and steering also come from the same model. The weight was kept at around 1500 kilograms , the maximum speed is a pleasant 230 km/h.

At first glance, the body looks the same as the original T1, yet it is 21 cm wider, has a carbon roof and a laminated front split window. Like many elements, the mirrors also come from Porsche, there is also a "Turbo" logo on the engine hood and a large Porsche inscription below it. The stylish coloring is complemented by 18-inch BBS wheels with 285/30 tires. No stone was left unturned in the cabin either – instead of a large party of friends, today the T1 transports only four people in anatomical Recaro seats , and the dashboard also comes from the 911 (993). Additional safety is ensured by the additionally mounted protective cage.
