Honda introduces the new generation MPV StepWGN

A large MPV from Honda has not appeared in Europe for many years, but in its home country of Japan, the automaker offers several models with seven or eight seats. StepWGN is currently undergoing a generational change, which will be the first ever to receive a new supercharged VTEC Turbo 15- cylinder engine.

The four-cylinder with direct injection produces 150 hp at 5500 rpm and 203 Nm between 1600 – 5000 rpm, which, in combination with a continuously variable CVT automatic (the Spada Cool Spirit version also has paddles under the steering wheel), is enough for an average of 5.9 liters /100 km. At the same time, we are talking about a model with a front-wheel drive, because there is also a four -wheel drive in the offer. Similar to the previous generation, two versions are available – the classic StepWGN and the more sportily shaped StepWGN Spada with different bumpers, side skirts, a rear spoiler or unique 16-inch wheels. After all, both models also differ slightly in length – the StepWGN is 4690 mm, the StepWGN Spada 4735 mm. However, the other dimensions are the same, the Japanese MPV is 1695 mm wide, 1840 mm high (1855 mm with all-wheel drive) and 2890 mm between the axles .

The most striking element of the car is the asymmetrical fifth door, which Honda refers to as the Waku Waku Gate (translated as an exciting gate). In addition to the classic tilting of the trunk lid upwards, only its larger part can be opened and that to the right. Ideal for loading smaller items or, in the case of the Magic Seat rear bench , which is divided in a ratio of 60:40 and can be folded into the floor, the fifth door opened in this way can be used for boarding and exiting passengers. There can be seven (2+2+3) or eight (2+3+3) with an additional bench for the middle row, and if they are not "climbing" out through the fifth door, they have two side sliding doors available.

The Honda Sensing radar-based set of assistants , including pedestrian detection or a pre-collision system, will appear in the equipment. In addition, stability control, hill start assist and an emergency braking signal for other drivers will be part of the standard equipment. The regular StepWGN is offered by Honda in the B, G and G EX lines at a base price of 2,288,000 yen (approx. ).
