SsangYong presented the new XAV concept

The South Korean SsangYong has been expanding massively lately, and the compact SUV Tivoli was added to the modernized Korando and Rexton types in Geneva. Its platform also currently houses the latest concept called XAV , which stands for eXciting Authentic Vehicle (exciting real car).

Above all, the appearance of the front part and fenders reminds one of the first generation Koranda , which practically started SsangYong's expansion into the European market. The press release even talks about the retro design , supported by a retractable canvas roof. To us, the box-like shape of the body, especially when viewed from the profile, is more reminiscent of a scaled -down Toyota FJ Cruiser. In the rear, next to the massive bumper, the crew will also find a practical box for small items , adding extra liters to the luggage compartment itself. In the spirit of today, the interior consists of a pair of displays – one functions as an instrument panel, the other as an entertainment system on the center console. There was room in front of the passenger for a handle , if the driver behind the sporty shaped steering wheel went a little too far in the off-road.

The secret behind why SsangYong introduced this concept lies primarily in the powertrain . The wheels of the front axle are turned by an electric motor, which is supplied with energy by lithium-ion batteries, and on the rear axle it is seconded by a 16-litre petrol engine. The automaker refers to this drive as e-4WD , and it is questionable whether Tivoli will see it in the future. Among other things, the chassis received air suspension and the Stereo Vision and Smart Motion Control systems, which in cooperation with each other can adjust the chassis as comfortably as possible on any surface. In the event of a puncture, run-flat tires will help.
