How to repair windshield spray nozzle

Spray nozzles are a very important part of the car. Especially in the winter, they are literally a necessity, because thanks to them, we will be 100% sure that we can wash our windshield easily and quickly without any problems. But the problem can arise when we diagnose a problem associated with the fact that the spray nozzles do not work. In this case, you definitely need to start looking at what the problem might be and how to solve it. Take a look with us at the possible paths to take. Of course, let’s assume that there is enough washer fluid in the tank and there is definitely no problem in this.

Head for the heat

Especially in winter, there may be a problem with the mixture in the nozzles simply freezing. In such a case, a very simple solution needs to be applied. And such that we will head into the heat with the car. We can help ourselves not only with our own garage, but we can also go to parking garages or underground garages in shopping centers. Temperatures are above freezing everywhere, which logically means that any freezing will loosen and the nozzles will work. Once this happens, it is ideal to add a more concentrated mixture to the water tank to mix and prevent possible freezing.

Another solution is to use hot water, which we then pour into the container with the liquid. Then we leave it on, ideally in a warmer place. Within a few tens of minutes, depending on the freezing, the ice should loosen and the nozzles will start working. We then proceed according to the instructions above. We dilute the liquid so that it no longer freezes. It is ideal to expect stronger frosts, as this is the only way we can be 100% sure that we will not encounter a situation similar to the one described above.

They are clean nozzles

They can also be the cause of many problems. Usually the complication is that one nozzle works and the other does not. It is this that can show us that impurity or another problem is appearing in it. One possible solution is to take a thin needle and try to simply poke the hole. However, this is mainly a temporary short-term solution, because in the case of impurities from the internal part, there is a risk that they will get into the nozzle again.

It is much better to dismantle the jets, which is not that complicated for most cars. Once we have, it is ideal to rinse them more thoroughly. If we are also afraid of limescale, it is possible to leave them soaked in hot vinegar for several tens of minutes. It is he who deserves the fact that possible limescale will be simply dissolved.

Dirt in the hoses

The third possible risk again concerns impurities. But this time the bigger ones, which could be placed in the hoses themselves. Here the repair is a bit more complicated. And that’s because we can’t do without the need to open the hood. Once we’re done, you also need to remove the individual covers or insulation that are from the inside of the hood. Once they are gone, we can usually see the individual hoses that lead to the washer nozzles. Now comes the need to simply disconnect the hoses. Once that happens, and they are removed, we can clean them up.

A procedure similar to that used for clogged nozzles will help here. The easiest way is to rinse them more thoroughly. But we can also blow through them. We also won’t spoil anything if we soak them in vinegar, which will dissolve the deposits if necessary. If everything is done, we proceed in the opposite order, in such a way that we connect the hoses again, place them in their original place, and then return the heat and sound insulation of the hood back to their place. Once it’s done, we can test the functionality. If the cause was really more dirt, it is a good idea to clean the nozzles as well when cleaning the hoses.

Damaged hose

Even this can be a fairly common problem, which is good to focus on more consistently. The way we find it is similar to the previous case. So we can’t do without opening the hood and getting to the individual pipes. We can subsequently see that they are significantly swollen, as well as a clearly visible hole. We can identify this by the fact that the mixture is leaking into the spray nozzles, so it is quite wet around.

A temporary repair is connected to the fact that, for example, we only cover the damaged area with adhesive tape. However, this is only a short-term solution. When we want to solve the problem in full, we cannot do without a new hose. This is not a big expense, as it can be purchased for a few crowns. Once we have replaced the hose, it is enough to put it back in its original place, return the insulation and then test the nozzles. At that point the washer repair should be over as everything is working exactly as it should.

Disconnected connection

The last reason why non-functioning washers appear can of course be connected to the fact that a specific connection is disconnected. If it is a disconnected connection in the given hoses, the solution is quite simple. We put them together again and the problem is solved. However, if there is no problem in this place, you need to proceed to the area of the washer container and look carefully here to see if the problem appears somewhere. We can recognize it, for example, by the fact that after turning on the washer, the glass does not wash, but the liquid leaks out from somewhere and there is a clearly characteristic puddle under the car itself. As soon as we find the problem with the connection, we connect it logically and then it is no longer a problem to test whether it works correctly. If we are worried about disconnection, the already mentioned adhesive tape can come into play again, which is quite sufficient in this case and can be said to be a more permanent solution.
