Renault introduced a sportier version of the Clio RS

Renaultsport paid, and thanks to the Mégane RS , it still pays for the manufacturer of sharp hatchbacks of the highest driving quality. Even more disappointing was the intergenerational transition of the Clia RS from a manual transmission to an EDC dual-clutch automatic. With the announcement of a sportier version of the Trophy , which is offered by the already mentioned Mégane RS , there was a small hope that at least a limited number of units will get a manual. In vain…

In its full name, the Clio RS 220 EDC Trophy has the same dual-clutch automatic, although it shifts 30 percent faster . In addition, the modified transmission should downshift faster and completely deactivates the Stop&Start system , which works in Normal mode, in Sport and Race modes. The automatic is seconded by a turbocharged sixteen -cylinder with a remapped control unit, a larger turbocharger, an air intake that minimizes pressure loss, and a redesigned exhaust pipe that incorporates a selective catalytic reduction system.

The result is 220 hp at 6,250 rpm and 260 Nm of torque, with a short-term boost to 280 Nm when engaging the fourth and fifth gears. Thanks to the modified exhaust, the latest Clio RS meets the Euro 6 emission standard and emits only 138 g of CO2/km, which is an improvement of 6 g compared to the classic Clio! Unbelievably, in the press release for the sporty hatchback, this is emphasized in bold font…

The chassis is 20 mm closer to the road at the front and 10 mm at the rear, while Rennaultsport installed stiffer shock absorbers with hydraulic shock absorbers. Steeper steering with an improved 13.2:1 gear ratio should be the most precise on the market . The 18-inch Radical wheels are shod with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires measuring 205/40 R18.

The appearance of the bodywork can be revived by the optional Pearlescent Givre matte paint , which is offered in addition to the existing shades of white, black, red and yellow. The new paint can also be combined with a glossy black roof. To make it clear enough that you are not in a serial RS, the Trophy received several stickers and badges with the name of the edition or individually numbered door sills. This brings us to the interior with a leather steering wheel or the additional RS Monitor telemetry system, through which it is also possible to set the sensitivity to pressing the gas pedal. Optional equipment in selected markets will be the Trophy interior package with heated leather sport seats, fake carbon trim and chrome inserts for the ventilation outlets. So forget about the safety cage, luxurious standard equipment and lightweight glass from the Mégane RS 275 Trophy-R…

Sales in Europe will start in June this year, and the Clio RS 220 EDC Trophy will be available to selected customers at a base price below 30,000 euros (approx. 824,000 crowns). But who will be interested in this car when the significantly better Mégane RS costs incomparably less? Only Renault knows that…
