History Saab 93

The hunger for cars in Sweden was constantly growing, so the Saab car manufacturer decided to modernize their car. In 1955, the Saab 93 was introduced in Stockholm . The main innovation was a two-stroke three-cylinder with a volume of 748 cc with a power of 24 kW and a torque of 70 Nm. Production of these engines gradually moved from the German Heinkel factory to Gothenburg , Sweden. But the suspension also changed, instead of torsion bars there were now coil springs on all wheels.

But changes had to occur in the exterior as well, so that the new car was properly distinguished from the original version. A vertical grille with a new emblem has become a typical element. Also, the direction indicators have already been solved as a headlight, and not as a tilting lever from the column. After two years of production, customers could have two-point seat belts installed in their cars. And for the first time, the possibility to have an automatic transmission appeared, which was supplied by the German company Saxomat . The following year, Saab owners said goodbye to the split front window and looked out of the car through a one-piece panoramic. Drum brakes were also improved. The last significant change was in 1960 for the 93F model, moving the door hinges to the front. In addition to its native Sweden, the car also gained considerable popularity in the USA , so the car company was able to continue developing new cars.
