Citroën revealed the modernized Berlingo

Less than a week ago, Citroën showed off the Berlingo Mountain Vibe off-road study, intended to tune fans and journalists alike to the upcoming upgrade of the "finally proper carriage," as advertising for the first-generation Berlingo once proclaimed. The good news is that the van or passenger version of the Multispace hasn't lost any of its large interior and has added some fuel savings.

Changes to the 438 cm long body are concentrated practically only in the front part. There, in addition to the new radiator grille, there is primarily a redesigned bumper, available in four different variants depending on the selected equipment. The basic Live line has classic black plastic, from the second level of Feel you can already find the same paint on it as on the body. From the third Shine trim , the lacquered bumper is offered with LED daytime running lights and fog lamps, which are built into contrasting black plates. The top-of-the -range XTR has the same bumper as the Shine, but next to it, it has a black gloss strip under the radiator grille. In addition to the existing body colors, there will also be two new ones on offer – gray Acier and brown Moka.

The interior of the personal version of the Multispace has not lost any of its spaciousness and variability with a wheelbase of 273 cm . The basic luggage volume of 675 liters can increase to 3,000 liters by removing the rear seats, passengers in the second row, sitting on three separate seats, have 24.5 cm of knee room. The Modutop roof storage space is also unique, which in combination with other storage spaces in the cabin gives an additional 170 liters of space. If we move to the utility version, it is available in two lengths , with the short variant's cargo space accommodating 3.3 m 3 , the extended variant you can load 3.7 m 3 , which corresponds to two Euro pallets. Even more variability is available thanks to the modular Extenso cab with three optional front seats and a folding passenger seat with a 50 kg sheet metal backrest. Thanks to the configuration options, the Berlingo Extenso can accommodate up to 0.4 m 3 more cargo than the regular model.

The appearance of the center console is especially enlivened by a new multimedia system with a seven-inch touch screen, available for personal and commercial versions. In addition to the ability to listen to the radio, stream music or connect a phone via Bluetooth, the infotainment also offers touch navigation, the output of a parking camera (if the car is equipped with one) and the mirroring of a smartphone using the Mirror Screen function . There is also technology that allows you to use the voice recognition function of a smartphone to make calls, select and play music, read and write text messages. The personal version of the Multispace also has two new seat covers – the gray fabric of the Quad has been replaced by the same fabric in blue for the Feel equipment, and the brand new Liberia fabric with ocher stitching is used for the Shine and XTR versions. The new equipment features are interesting, when the rear parking sensors have been added to the front ones, there is also cruise control, the Grip Control system and autonomous Active City Brake at city speeds, if an obstacle is recognized by the laser in the windshield.

BlueHDi diesel engines now comply with the Euro 6 emission standard, mainly thanks to improved internal efficiency and reduction of mechanical losses caused by friction, respectively a modified exhaust pipe with an oxidation catalyst, a selective catalytic reduction module that injects AdBlue (it is stored in a 17-liter tank in the back of the car , which is enough for 20,000 km), and a particulate filter with an additive. The least powerful BlueHDi has 75 hp and consumes 4.3 l/100 km, followed by the 100 hp version without start/stop system (consumption 4.3 l/100 km) or with start/stop system (consumption 4.1 l/100 km ) and the highlight is the 120-horsepower version with a start/stop system and consumption of 4.3 l/100 km. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, the 100-horsepower unit can also be had with a piloted six-speed ETG6 transmission and consumption of 4.2 l/100 km. In addition to all the above-mentioned units (however, Citroën does not state the consumption), the commercial version also has a VTi four-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 95 hp with a manual transmission, and HDi diesels with an output of 75 hp with a manual transmission, e-HDi with an output of 75 hp with a manual transmission, HDi with 90 hp with manual transmission, 90 hp e-HDi with ETG6 piloted transmission and 115 hp HDi with manual transmission. However, the disadvantage of these engines is compliance with the Euro 5 emission standard .

A specialty of the utility version is also the electric version with the simple designation Electric, with a power of 67 hp and a torque of 200 Nm from zero rpm. The city range is a respectable 170 km at a top speed of 110 km/h and reportedly "decent acceleration". In addition, the Berlinga Electric battery is able to recharge automatically during deceleration and braking. Similar to the C4 Picasso, the modernized Berlingo also uses pseudo-MacPherson axles , the aerodynamics and sound insulation of the power unit have been optimized.
