BYD introduced a new plug-in hybrid SUV

Gone are the days when Chinese cars were a laughing stock for their notorious (un) quality and outdated technology , mostly bought from a more famous brand that used them in the 90s. The new plug-in hybrid SUV Tang , named after the Tang dynasty, from the Build Your Dreams car company shows that when they want to in China, they can create a monster without exaggeration.

Under its hood is a two-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a power of 205 hp and a torque of 320 Nm, which works with a pair of electric motors , each with a power of 150 hp and a torque of 200 Nm. Simple math works out to a very impressive total output of 505 horsepower and 720 Nm of torque, making the Tang the most powerful plug-in hybrid, as well as pure hybrid, SUV in the world! The BYD car company calls the tactic in building this car 5-4-2 , in translation to offer an SUV with an acceleration to 100 km/h in under 5 seconds (actually 4.9 seconds), all-wheel drive (to which the power is transmitted by a six-speed dual-clutch automatic) and consumption under 2 l/100 km . The "Chinese miracle" can run about 80 km purely on electricity, and when the batteries run out, just plug the Tang into a 220V outlet and wait. To prevent the driving mode from becoming a random generator, you can select it using the interior controller. The purely electric and hybrid mode is further complemented by the eco mode and, above all, the sports mode , where all three engines work at full capacity.

But they are far from all trumps, because you just need to reach for the limited edition Ultimate Edition with a distinctive sports bodykit and you will suddenly push the acceleration to 4.4 seconds. This would make the Tang the third fastest SUV in the world after the BMW X5/X6M and the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63. However, the price for the model, produced in a limited number of 200 units, is an astronomical 600,000 yuan (approx. 2.3 million crowns) in China. A slightly cheaper option to get the special edition is the BYD Tang Limited , produced in 98 units. It impresses with its red wheels and unique interior, its price is 300,000 yuan (approx. 1,165,000 crowns).

However, the most attractive design is the basic model with extended fender edges, LED diode lights, a prominent front bumper and lots of chrome. However, when viewed from the profile and especially from the rear, the BYD Tang can remind a lot of people of the Lexus RX . However, this changes when you move into the interior, which is upholstered in leather, inlaid with wood and, at least in terms of appearance, does not compete with the European competition. In front of the driver is a 12.1-inch display, forming the instrument panel , the center console hosts a 10.2-inch navigation display and a small compass display can also be found between the vents. The standard equipment also includes 8 airbags , an audio system with independent adjustment for the rear seats, three-zone automatic air conditioning again with individual adjustment for the rear part of the cabin, electrically controlled front seats with memory, heating and cooling, heated rear seats and a sunroof. Safety assistants include cruise control, lane departure warning, rear camera and blind spot monitoring.

The Chinese automaker has been accepting orders for the car since yesterday , but the prices of the standard model are not yet known. Thus, the potential applicant only has to choose from the two aforementioned limited models.
