The Lancia 037 represents the last era of racing romance

Imagine the position of the Lancia car company in the early 1980s. With the Stratos HF type, she won three world rally titles in a row (from 1974 to 1976). But now the whole world is pronouncing the words " all-wheel drive ". You have to prepare a car that can continue the success of the previous model and at the same time be a full-fledged competitor in the new decade. Lancia built the Type 037 , which raced for the first time in 1983. And in the same year, it became the last single-axle drive car to win the Constructors' Cup . And that was before the Audi Quattro cars managed to change rallying.

In order for the type 037 to hit the tracks, they had to produce 200 civilian cars in Italy and sell them to the public. These versions were given the name 037 Stradale and visually did not differ from the racing specials in anything. They were anything but comfortable. And one of the lucky owners, Philip Toledano , had the editors at Petrolicous make a video about his gem. According to him, the 037 is a sports car designed for people who want to drive really fast. The appearance is purely functional, there was no embellishment here. Although the look was designed by Pininfarina . Basically, it's the automotive equivalent of a hammer – purposeful and dangerous. The interior refers to the car's racing origins. Just the necessary indicators and switches. Under the hood is a turbocharged two-liter from Abarth , which makes a breathtaking sound.
