Volkswagen is heading into the popular SUV segment

The first was the Octavia Scout , then the Leon X-Perience showed up, and the Golf Alltrack is the third to join the party. What do they have in common? Raised bodywork, four-wheel drive and plastic protective accessories, all for driving in lighter terrain.

In the case of the Golf Alltrack, the ground clearance went up by 20 mm . In addition, the plastics in both bumpers and on the side sills are painted silver , so at first glance you can mistake the Golf for the Passat Alltrack. The rear-view mirror covers, standard roof rails and a new "bar" in the front air intake were also painted silver. The wheels measure 17 inches and fit almost perfectly into the newly shaped wheel arches.

The only petrol unit under the hood will be a 180 hp TSI with a torque of 280 Nm and a six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic. It will be complemented by a trio of TDI diesel engines with a six-speed manual, or a two-clutch automatic in the case of the most powerful version – the weaker sixteen-cylinder has 110 hp and 250 Nm, the stronger two-liter has 150 or 184 hp, respectively 342 or 381 Nm. Standard on all versions is 4Motion all-wheel drive with an electronic front differential lock.

Certain off-road ambitions are indicated by the special Offroad driving mode , which adjusts the ABS system for off-road driving, changes the characteristics of the gas pedal and activates the hill descent system. Volkswagen also boasts a towing capacity of up to 2 tonnes .
