History Autobianchi A112 Abarth

The Autobianchi A112 Abarth was such a small but very poisonous scorpion. This small city car in its regular version began to be produced in 1969. By 1986, a total of 1,254,178 cars had been produced. The sports version was launched in September 1971. In 1982, the car company became part of Lancia , so the car was sold as the Lancia A112 Abarth in some markets.

The wheelbase of the sports version remained at 2040 mm, while the wheelbase remained at 3230 mm. In terms of dimensions, the Abarth outgrew its British competitor. Under the hood was a small reader with a volume of 903 cc, which, however, was bored out to 982 cc in Abarth . The engine had twin carburettors and a different cam. In addition, the car received a completely new exhaust pipe. The output of 32.4 kW thus rose to 38.2 kW. The maximum speed of the Abarth was even 150 km/h.

Another version appeared in 1975, when the Abarth received a larger engine with a volume of 1050 cc and a power of 51 kW, which arrived at 6000 revolutions. All this in a car that weighed 700 kg, thanks to which the car had perfect dynamics. The new version was named A112 Abarth 70HP . A five-speed gearbox also appeared in the car for the first time. At first glance, you could recognize it by the larger air vents on the C-pillar. The weaker, older version was offered concurrently until 1976. The stronger version gained a reputation as a tricky toy for experienced drivers. A number of owners did not avoid accidents, even Olivier Panis , a Formula 1 racer, did not drive his Autobianchi A112 Abarth . With a more powerful version, the car manufacturer also entered the rally.

Another facelift appeared in 1982, when, for example, the blinkers were moved to the bumper. The vent covers on the C-pillar have been newly painted in body color. Changes were not avoided in the interior either. Production of the entire model range was completed in 198ž. At that time, the A112 model replaced the Y10 type, which was already sold under the Lancia brand. The sports version of the Abarth was no longer produced from it.
