Toyota revealed a new look for the Probox and Succeed pair

I bet that if I say the names of the Probox and Succeed models, many of you probably won't associate them with the world's largest car manufacturer, the Japanese Toyota . However, both have been on the market since 2002 and, in addition to Japan, they are also successful in Russia, Peru or Bolivia, where they serve primarily as taxi service vehicles. An updated version of both models will hit the market at the beginning of September this year, so they are definitely worth a look.

From a visual point of view, both models are identical and, apart from the purposefully box-shaped body (competition for example Berlingo or Renault Kangoo), they mainly offer simple shapes, supported in the cheaper versions by large plastic parts on both bumpers and steel wheels. The large glass area will please, as well as the ease of decision-making – there are only six body colors and 14-inch steel wheels with or without decorative covers. The front part underwent an interesting, not only design change, which thanks to structural changes now offers better deformation zones .

If the body is very simple, then it is difficult to define the interior , which is anything but fancy and complicated. The instrument panel consists only of a speedometer, on the center console you will find only three rotary controls and, in higher versions, a radio. Here it is also good to remember that both models exist in Van and Wagon versions , with the biggest difference being the more sophisticated rear bench with headrests in the latter version. You can choose from a configuration with two or five seats (previously a seven-seater version was also available), in the latter case the rear bench can be folded completely flat. Compared to the previous model, the number of storage areas in the interior has been rapidly improved – you can put a briefcase between the seats, for example, there is a charger with a mobile phone holder and a pull-out table with a load capacity of 10 kg on the center panel, and there is also a large number of storage areas for a bottle or box with liquids.

In the case of the Probox, the 4245 mm long , 1690 mm wide and 1525 mm high tub is powered by two engines – a 13- cylinder gasoline engine with an output of 95 hp at 6000 rpm with a torque of 121 Nm at 4000 rpm and a 15-cylinder gasoline engine with 109 hp at 6000 rpm with a torque of 136 Nm at 4800 rpm. For the fifteen thousand, these values apply to the version with two-wheel drive, if you choose the four -wheel drive, the power drops to 103 hp and the torque to 132 Nm. The Succeed is only available with a 15-seat model, also in a version with front or all-wheel drive. In all cases, the only choice is the CVT-i automatic .

As for safety, we find ABS, ESP and traction and stability control as standard in all versions. There are frontal and head airbags inside. On the Japanese market, both models will be available in four trim levels , which are called DX, DX Comfort GL and F for the Probox, and U, UL, UL-X and TX for the Succeed. Probox starts at 1,317,600 yen (approx. 269,000 crowns) for a two-wheeler with a 13-spoke wheel, or 1,652,400 yen (approx. 337,000 crowns) for a quad bike with a 15-spoke wheel, Succeed will cost at least 1,437,382 yen (approx. 293,000 crowns) for a two-wheeler and 1,652,400 yen (approx. 337,000 crowns) for a four-wheeler.
