Smart probably unveiled new models for the last time

The smart city cars of the Daimler concern have not been as successful in recent years as managers would have imagined. The turning point should occur already next week , when the new generations of the ForTwo and ForFour models are to be presented, at least virtually, for the first time.

The pocket-sized dimensions of the Smart ForTwo will remain in the third generation, when the hatchback will still have the same length of 2569 mm. On the contrary, the width of the car will increase by 100 mm to a total of 1659 mm. The ForFour shrinks from its failed predecessor, measuring just 3500mm (down 252mm from before).

As previously confirmed, both Smarts will share up to 70% of parts with the new Renault Twingo , which means, among other things, the rear engine and rear-wheel drive. Under the hood we can find a liter three-cylinder with a power of 70 hp and a torque of 91 Nm or a turbocharged three-cylinder with a volume of 0.9 liters with a power of 90 hp and a torque of 135 Nm. A five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission will be available. In addition to the Twingo, the Smart version will be offered by the Brabus tuner , which could offer around 100 horsepower. There is also an electric version in the game.

The design will again be based on the latest evolution of the Tridion safety frame , while other design elements will be shared by both models with the brand's latest concepts such as FourJoy , ForSpeed or ForVision . The front lights with LED diodes for daytime running will be dominant. From modern safety features, small German hatchbacks will certainly receive a rear parking camera and parking sensors.
